How Long Do You Hold Onto Your Jeans?
Two million of us hold on to our favourite pair of denims for up to 40 years
By Daily Mail Reporter
Deep down you know you'll never manage to squeeze into those old jeans again - but you still hang on to them, just in case.
And you are not alone. A study has revealed that up to two million of us hold on to our favourite pair of denims for up to 40 years.
Many believe that, whatever the style, their strides will eventually come back in fashion - even if that means waiting decades and shedding a fair few pounds.
The survey of 1,000 visitors to the Lakeside Shopping Centre in Essex found the average pair of British jeans is six years old and women hang on to them for longer than men.
Almost half of all adults believe jeans will never go out of fashion.
Three in ten women but only 12 per cent of men keep old pairs in the hope they will be able to lose enough weight to get back into them.
Around 46 per cent of men have a pair of old jeans that they wear for messy jobs such as painting and decorating.
More than one in five (22 per cent) have a much simpler reason for keeping their old jeans - they are the most comfortable item of clothing they own.
A small but significant 8 per cent say they hang on to their jeans for sentimental reasons.
Across the country there are £7billion worth of jeans in wardrobes, with the average adult owning five pairs.

Body Shapers to Wear With Jeans
Look your best in your jeans with a little help from a terrific body shaper!
Everyone wants to look great in their jeans. Unless you are one of the lucky few with a perfect body, you can get a little help the way I do, with a body shaper. Gone are the days of uncomfortable, strangling girdle-like shapers. Today's body shapers are not only comfortable, they are undetectable and don't create any new bulges. I don't wear my shaper everyday, but I love the extra boost of confidence it gives me when I want it. I dress for comfort and I would never wear a body shaper if it wasn't perfectly comfortable.
Spanx is likely the most well known name in body shapers, and has pioneered new fabrics, designs and marketing of body shapers. I think they've single handedly made it not only OK to wear body shapers, but also OK, if not cool, to talk about wearing them. Today you can find body shapers from a variety of manufactures offering a great selection of styles and prices.

Green jeans

"JEANS giant Levi’s has come up with a shoe range that is made entirely of reused jeans!
Millions of pairs of old Levi’s jeans are collected from all over the world to make these shoes.
The jeans are washed, sorted according to colour and manually cut. Iconic parts of the jeans are used to make the shoes – watch pockets, copper rivets, buttons, belt loops, leather patch and the trademark yellow stitching. Two pairs of shoes can be made from a pair of jeans.
Each pair of shoes is unique, for the simple reason that different parts of the jeans are used.
In Malaysia, the Levi’s Reused Jean Shoes are now in stores. There are only limited pairs, so if you’re keen, do check them out early. Prices range from RM159 to RM219."

AFP: Indian colleges ban jeans to 'protect' girls
AFP: Indian colleges ban jeans to 'protect' girls: "Indian colleges ban jeans to 'protect' girls
LUCKNOW, India (AFP) — Colleges in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh said Wednesday that female students would be banned from wearing jeans and other Western clothes to halt sexual harassment by male classmates.
'Girls who choose to wear jeans will be expelled from the college,' Meeta Jamal, principal of the Dayanand girls' college in Kanpur city told AFP. 'This is the only way to stop crime against women.'
A growing number of colleges in Uttar Pradesh have decided to outlaw jeans, shorts, tight blouses and miniskirts on campus in an attempt to crack down on 'Eve-teasing' -- as sexual harassment is known in India.
But many of the students, who are aged between 17 and 20, said the new rules punished innocent females rather than tackling the men who treated women badly.
'Banning any clothing will certainly never solve the issue of sexual harassment,' said Uzma, a graduate student from Lucknow University who declined to give her full name.
Hindu extremist groups have in recent months attacked women drinking in pubs and threatened couples who make public displays of affection.
The vigilantes claimed they were acting to protect India's conservative values against the spreading influence of Western culture.
Some colleges elsewhere in the country have previously banned the wearing of jeans, but protests from students forced the dress regulations to be reversed."
